There are so many thoughts in the mind that it becomes difficult for it to process and focus. The emotional environment, negative feelings, and emotions, negative thoughts, other problems, digital media overload, etc all lead to the cluttering of our mind. The mental and emotional toxins often go unnoticed. But, it is essential to detoxify and cleanse our minds too. How does the mind get cluttered?

The first step is to listen to what your body and mind are telling you. Take a break, step back, and breathe. Nothing in the world is going to stop just because you take a break. Identifying that you need to detox the mind is half the work done.

Once you have decided that your mind needs to detox, the next step is to identify how to detox the mind. There are various ways in which you can detox your mind. You may consider some of these methods to detox your mind.
1. Make List.
You might feel there are endless tasks for you to finish and you just can’t find the time to complete all of them. Just remembering all the tasks is a task in itself. The to-do or bucket list is of great help here. Lists help the mind and brain to compartmentalize. They help to identify what is important to you and what can be conveniently removed from all those nagging tasks that you had set up for yourself. Along the way be sure to prioritize the tasks too as you make your to-do list. The list can be a short-term (daily basis) or long-term (annual) one. It will help if you put down in black and white what has to be done and keep ticking off each task as you complete it. This will give you a feeling of fulfillment and satisfaction.
2. Maintain a Journal
So many pent up emotions, no one to share it with. What do you do? Maintain a Journal. It is the best place to pour your heart out. It is non-judgmental and it will help you to get all the negativity out of your system. Removing all the negative emotions from your mind will help to clear space in your mind for positive thoughts which will help improve things for you.
3. Let go of thoughts
Take a deep breath, hold it for a count of four and then exhale deeply. Let the thoughts come in your mind and let them out as you exhale. This will help you to let go of all unwanted thoughts. It helps to calm your mind. You just need a peaceful space and a few minutes every-day to practice this.
4. Meditation and Yoga
Many types of research have been carried out on both meditation and yoga. The conclusions are irrefutable. Both methods are excellent for calming the mind and composing our thoughts and focusing our minds. These two methods are very effective in decluttering the mind. They are age-old practices and give positive results if done properly.
5. Practice Gratitude
It is very important in life for us to practice gratitude. We should learn to count our blessings and be grateful for what we have rather than lamenting what we don’t have. Do not leave room for comparison with others in your life, you don’t know what that person is going through. Instead have a positive outlook and see what all you have and offer a silent thank you for it.
6. Spend time outdoors.
One of the best ways to calm the mind is to connect with Nature. Mother Nature has the power to invite, encourage, inspire, and increase energy levels in the mind. It is a great idea to take some time out and spend time outdoors. Go for a walk, play a sport, take a hike, indulge in some outdoor hobbies like gardening, etc. All these activities are great stress busters and they help to improve overall physical and mental health.
7. Time away from technology
It is a great way of de-stressing. Stay away from your phone, Tab, social media, and other electronic gadgets. Put your phone on mute, switch off the notifications for a couple of hours every-day, disconnect from electronics 30 minutes before bed-time every-day, spend time socializing with family and people around you. Do not reach for your phone first thing in the morning as soon as you open your eyes. Delay getting on to social media as much as possible. All this will help your mind to de-stress and as a result, help it to focus better when you get back to work.
8. Let It Go
Things beyond your control? Let it go. Your worrying or overthinking is not going to help in any manner, so just LET IT GO. Overthinking and worrying are the best ways to stress out your mind. Make a list of things that are hindering you in any way: job, relationship, activity, habit; anything. If it is not helping you in any way the best thing you can do for yourself is saying goodbye to all of them.
